I love our garden. I love planning it, planting it and watching how it grows. I also love experiencing the garden through someone else’s eyes. We have deer, butterflies, turtles, our dogs and some adorable rabbits. They all thrive in it, but none more than our old Scottish Terrier, Boo. He used to love walking the perimeter of the garden, sniffing and exploring. He did it every morning. It’s what my mother used to call ‘reading the newspaper’ to see what had had happened during the night while he slept. Towards the end of his life, the walk took him a long time, but he did it every day, and he loved it. He left us this year, but I like to think he passed the torch to a fluffy bunny that makes the same rounds every day just like he did.

Now summer is slipping away, and September is upon us. The garden will be equally beautiful in the fall, albeit with fewer flowers and leaves. I will luckily have a lot of flowers, like the Echinacea in the picture, to embroider onto sweaters when the weather gets cold. And luckily the bunny will be nourished by all my vegetables he stole from my garden!
